Time Capsule slow file transfer

I am having experiencing extremely slow file transfers compared to my Airport Extreme. Renewing leases temporarily helps, but only temporarily. Slowness does not coincide with Time Machine activity. Mac Pro connected via gigabit ethernet, MacBook Pro and iMac 802.11m.

Mac Pro/MacBook Pro/iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Mine is EXTREMELY slow too. I will do a 50MB backup and it will take all night. File transfers over the wireless go at 802.11b speeds if I'm lucky. My 802.11n MacBook Pro is the only thing on my wireless and everything else is plugged in. Even if I plug directly into the TC, Time Machine still goes horribly slow. However, if I plug directly in with two machines and do a file transfer, it goes at the right speed... but if I wanted to plug in I wouldn't of gotten wireless... This is frustrating because Time Machine is completely worthless at these speeds no matter what I do.

I'm finding speed can be increased by relaunching the finder and renewing the lease in the TCP/IP advance settings on each computer before the file transfer. This fix seems to be temporary, though. It's a pain to repeat this protocol all day long!! It's turning my Time Capsule into a very expensive external drive when I have to go back to my Airport Extreme for file transfers.

I have just bought TC and connected via Ethernet to a network (not wireless) to use as an additional hard drive for all the computers on the network. File transfers take 10 times as long to copy to TC than to another mac. This defeats the object for my business where we need fast access to files, photos, fonts etc which we need to store on a networked hard drive.

Designating a Mac as a File Server and turning on File Sharing may be a better solution for you. Apple recommends against using that as someone's someone's private Mac (because File Service would compete with the private use) but that choice is clearly up to you. It does not have to have a fast processor, but faster I/O would be better. In schools, we find that GigaBit Ethernet provides near-Hard_Drive performance for File Sharing. Windows File Sharing is available, too, if you need it.

You can take it a step further an dedicate a Mac to running Mac OS X Server software, but in many situations that is overkill. If you also want centralized Print Spooling, a private Mail Server, Web Sharing, or many other services, a dedicated Mac running Mac OS X Server can be a real benefit.

I saved up to buy the TC. I was very excited and anxious, i just love Apple and they have provided me with great service and products....... until now. I just bought it today, now i am sitting down on my couch with a long sad face staring at "92.96 GB - About 20 hours

I am really disappointed in Apple because I am such a Mac enthusiast, perhaps I will keep my mouth shut about this one 😟

i have successfully pulled through with a solution to the above: returned Time Capsule for a G-Tech 500GB G-Drive.. more or less the same price but MUCH MUCH MUCH.. etc... FASTER! however when using Time Machine, the application backup software seems to slow down the process, dont know why, but when i drag and drop stuff in the external WOW that thing is fast. i love it.. not sure about time machine tho
