Shuffle encounter with washing machine

I left my Shuffle in my gym shorts and it just went through the washer. Bone-headed mistake. Is there any hope of resurrecting it, or is it forever dead?

Whatever you do... _*DO NOT*_ plug it in!!!!!!

Unplug earphones, and tap it against a hard surface a few times with the earphones jack down. Then put it somewhere that's dry and room temperature for about a week before attempting to connect it...

Some people have gotten good results by putting a washed shuffle in a plastic bag filled with dry rice and leaving it there a few days. The theory is that the rice will soak up the moisture.

Ok, today must be the day of the washing machine disasters! I too have washed my daughters' 1st gen. shuffle today! My problem is that before reading the response to the 1st question I went ahead and plugged in the shuffle! It didn't seem wet when I took it out of the washer just a tiny bit damp...so I dryed it alittle more & plugged it in. The computer seemed to recognize it, even iTunes listed all of the songs in her memory etc. and the battery light began blinking, looking like it was charging. But when I unplugged it & plugged in the headphones...NOTHING! No lights, no sound, nothing at all. Did I kill it...is it worth it to try to revive it or just buy her a new one? Thanks for any advice...I currently hav it in the bag with the dry rice.

An update: After allowing the Shuffle to rest in a bag of rice for four-plus days, I tested it tonight by plugging it in to the computer. The orange light blinked a couple of times, then nothing. The computer did not recognize it, and iTunes did not load. I think it's dead, sadly, so I guess I'll be ordering a new one -- and I'll check my pockets more carefully before throwing things in the wash.
