Question on folder and document order

you used to be able to have a folder's contents changeable (in a list view). there used to be an option to arrange the folders first and then order the documents lower in the list rather than have all mixed up.

is this feature gone?

That's never been available officially in the Finder. There was a hack that did it in earlier versions, but that doesn't work in 10.5. If you really want this some of the various Finder alternatives such as Pathfinder can do this.
