"Please insert a blank disc..." I HAVE!

I have an iMac 2.8 Core Duo. I'm running OS 10.5.2 and iTunes 7.6.1.

I open iTunes, go to a playlist, hit the "burn disc" button and it prompts me to "Please insert a blank disc..." I do. I've insert several brands. But iTunes doesn't recognize the blank disc. It just keeps asking "Please insert a blank disc..." After a few moments I get this pop up "You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore. My action options are "Open iTunes", "Open Finder", and "Open Disc Utility". I've tried all three, nothing works.

Without iTunes running, if I insert the blank CD disc, it shows up on my desktop -- so I know the disc is being recognized by my iMac, but why not iTunes?

Is anyone else having a similar problem and does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
same here, with latest iTunes 7.6.2. I've tried with brand new Sony CD-R and JVC CD-R: no luck. Strangely, even my Toast 7.0.2 is doing weird things: when I have no CD in the superdrive it tells me that I have a CD-RW not writable. Whenever I insert a blank cd-r, it spits it out. The only way I succeded burning a CD lately, but a ISO not a audio, is with DiskUtility.
I have the impression that's something wrong with some OS components managing the superdrive rather than the applications themselves.

Curious to know more soon.

I too have had this... I can't stop it either. I have done system restores and i-tunes repairs. Nothing is working. I have done the disk diagnostics and it is fine. I don't get it. I have 7 different cd / dvd recordable types of disks here and all are doing the same. I am soooo fed up right now with i-tunes right now and I loved the program for years. HELP!!!!!

If I uninstall it totally what will happen to my music and play lists?
