No service- international roaming- sudden problem- 1.1.4- India

Hi all-

Have a 16gb iphone ver 1.1.4 that was working fine in U.S. and on travel to India. As of 3pm on 8th March, IST, the Iphone shows no service on any of the local India GSM carriers. Am in Chennai and was showing Vodafone, Airtel, AirCell, and CellOne in network selection. Set to automatic and was pulling up Vodafone from 2 March until yesterday. Now, i get nothing. I have reset network settings, done a direct reboot, and reset all settings.

My colleague who is traveling in a different part of India also noticed that his Iphone stopped getting a signal yesterday afternoon.

ATT International roaming and international data plans are activated on both phones. ATT Sim cards are installed. No unlock software is on the phones and both of them were working after the 1.1.4 update.

Any ideas? Much obliged...

Iphone 16gn, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

My first thought, since it affected both of you, would be to make contact with AT&T to have them check it out. Then, I guess to make contact with one of the local carriers in India. Again, since it affected both phones, I wouldn't believe that it would be a phone issue. The only other sugguestion that I would have would be to power the phone off/on. If that doesn't re-establish the carrier, then I would make the phone calls I described at first. Since I'm not a world traveler, I couldn't suggest anything else.

Hope this helps you some.

That would be an option. I believe that when you call AT&T, if you make contact with their International roaming section, or at least international "someting", they should be able to help. I cannot see it having any effect on your phone when you return to the US. Besides, if there is a problem when you return, you can always restore from iTunes at your computer.

Sorry I couldn't have been anymore help that this.

I arrived in India 10 days ago and recently the same thing happened to me. The kicker: I don't have an iPhone. I have a Windows Mobile device (Moto Q9h).

I found this thread while searching for answers, so I thought I'd post. This tells me that it's a network issue, not a phone issue. It's almost as if the India carrier (Vodafone for me, too) allowed us on the network for a bit, then realized they didn't want us on it and kicked us off.

I did pop in an Indian SIM (Airtel), and it worked ok. Then I put my AT&T SIM back in, and voice/text worked but data was still not connecting. We've all obviously tried powering on and off, resetting, and refreshing in and out of flight mode a million times. I'd really love to get data working again!!

Thanks all. Last night it magically started working again on the Vodafone network. I dont believe this was the result of any settings resets on my part. Rather it was a network problem here (India) regarding ATT roaming that resolved itself overnight.

Fortunately I have INDIA cell phone for everyday use. But I wonder what happened to any calls from the U.S. that I may have missed.

Thanks again, all.
