Why can't I select the tracker number int the secondary room

Hi I want to know why is it when I'am in a secondary, it's enabled, I goto vignette, user shape, this takes me to the geometry room. I create a vignette and attach it. I then goto tracker and either manually track or try an automatic track, then go back to my secondary ( making sure I'm in the right secondary tab) and try to change the tracker number for my user shape vignette, nothing happens. ......BUT if I select in the vignette, either the square or the circle, I can use my tracker that I just set and it works fine to track the object. of course I don't want the square or the circle since these objects are not adequate for outlining my region of interest.
I do know that Color can behave in some strange ways, for example if you click rapidly enough whilst using a manual tracker ( and you happen to have FCP6.0.2 open) you can actuate the smoothcam filter!!!!, yes unbelievable as it sounds, I've done it on several occasions, while you are in Color!

Anyway I'm getting side tracked, hope someone can help out with my query above.

PS oh I ended up having to create a vignette and key frame the region of interest, which, ok, I would have needed to key frame anyway but being able to use the tracker really would have saved me lots of time.
