Mark on MacBook Screen...

First off I would love to show a picture of the mark on my display, but I don't have a camera =\

Anyway, there is a rather long (approximately 3-inch) mark going across the upper centre of my MacBook's screen, and no amount of cleaning will get rid of it. I know what it is from - the area on the lower MacBook between the TrackPad and the Spacebar touches the screen, and a line emerges.

I've read that the recessed, or imbedded keyboard design is supposed to stop this from occurring, and yet my marks are there!

Think there's any way that my screen is covered under warranty? Would an Apple Employee know how to get these marks off? (BTW, I did try iKlean, didn't help.)

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Do you by any chance carry your Mac in a backpack with textbooks or in a suitcase with other items? This is a common problem for people that do that.

Yes, the recessed keyboard keeps the keys from rubbing against the screen -- so long as there's nothing pressing the screen down. If there is, no amount of recessing is going to stop the keys from touching the screen.

Unfortunately, no, there's not much that can be done about these marks. And no, Apple will not replace the laptop because of them. To avoid making them worse and/or getting more of them, do not allow anything to press against your laptop in a backpack, suitcase, briefcase, etc.

I also have the same issue. I carry my macbook in a laptop case in a bag designed for just a laptop, nothing is pushing on it and I am extremely careful when I carry it and where I place it. I took my macbook to the Apple store today to see what could be done about it...what a joke that was and not to mention a complete waste of my time. The genius bar tech said I should use iKleen, which I do and when I told the tech that the kid told me to put more elbow grease into it or use something else. When I insisted it was not dirt and that I feel the keyboard is to blame, he laughed it off and said there is no way that could happen but if I was concerned about it I could buy a keyboard protector to prevent it from happening. Call me stupid, but WHY IN THE HECK DOES THE APPLE STORE SELL PRODUCTS TO PREVENT SCREEN SCRATCHING IF THEY CLAIM IT CAN'T HAPPEN????? I purchased my macbook in late Sept and I am going to fight this..This is completely unacceptable. A laptop is supposed to be portable and in all my years I have never had this issue with a windows laptop. The tech even went as far as to say..'well, you got something on the screen, try to be more careful'!!! ARGHHH! I will post back on my success or failures in fighting this.

Hi Mail Man,

if I could ask a further question of you. If you run your finger over the mark can you feel anything (eg can you feel a grove etc). If you can it is most likely that the protective/reflective film on the screen has been scratched and no amount of cleaning will fix that 😟. If not, I find the soft carry case for glasses does a great job of getting all types of marks off my macbook screen.

Hope that helps
