Motion 3 causing critical system failure.

I'm trying to use motion on my MBP with 4GB ram, 2.4GHz Intel Duo, and when I was using the 3D view to move an object around all of a sudden my system froze. Then after about 4 seconds, the mouse could move, but I could not click anything. I had a small USB thumbdrive attached, and to see if an external device removal will wake finder, so i pulled out the USB stick. Nothing so I forced shut it down. I remembered the time of the freeze and recovered the Console data for that time period.

This can be replicated each time. Its when I move a picture object with an active camera on. (I kinda have to do this step for the effect I need to achieve....) It also does this on other templates that are 3D.

My MacBook Pro died in it's sleep with the same symptom, nothing extraordinary running, only three GUI apps open was Finder.app, ClamXav and Textedit.app

I've had this happen to me as well. Happened more often (or noticed it more) before 10.5.2, however it's happened enough times after the update that I'm doubting it did anything. Here is an excerpt of my log:

I think if I send it to applecare it may be a hit-or miss since it doesn't happen all the time. Usually happened with CPU-busy apps, this time I was just watching a movie thru Quicktime.

hi guys

you all seem to be having similar problems. Do any of you have any third party software, like system extensions/enhancements that might be causing the problem. Or nokia bridge software or novatel3G dongles? Just looking at the logs you posted and the kernels that are crashing seem to point at other bits of code.

Or maybe its a graphics card driver issue, are you running the latest versions?

It's the same for me I switch to 3D, turn on the layers and it freezes within minutes. I have to reboot with the power button.

I'm not running leopard, installed and reinstalled all the updates, tried at a lower display resolution, everything but reinstall FCS2 or Motion 3 (which I heard doesnt do anything) and it still crashes within 5 minutes. I used Motion 3 a few months ago and no problem. Now I can't even use it period.

I have a MBP 2.2 GHz 4GB RAM, and I have started experiencing the same problem since last 3-4 days. The only thing that I have noticed is that the crash seems to be happening only when i am using a new application that I installed i.e. OmniGraffle 5.0 (I have been using OmniGraffle 4.0 for some time without issues).

I've had this happen two times already: I'm running a simulation on my brand new 2.4GHz MBP. That uses all my processing capacities and my MBP is getting hot and fans are running full speed. (This might not mean anything, I'm practically not idling my MBP 😉 ) Then suddenly the system slows down and graphic glitches appear: i.e., several areas are not redrawn, blocks of different colours appear (a bit like in old c64 days), several areas of windows appear mirrored and much enlarged. The portions of windows that are sill visible are not responsive to mouse clicks (the mouse pointer is the only thing that still moves and is drawn correctly). Music still plays, albeit with breaks (1-2s every 5-10s), during which also the mouse pointer doesn't move.

When I try to put the MBP into sleep by closing the lid, the white light is blinking and it seems to do it's normal going-to-sleep process, however never sleeps (fans keep spinning at lower speed). When I open the lid again, the screen stays black. The last entries in system.log before the crash are
