since Tiger introduced a new file format for storing your messages, TB does not know how to deal with this. You will have to export your messages into standard mbox format which TB understands.

I tried both solutions. The Emailchemy was much easier to use, and faster.
Jamie, I just downloaded the trial version. All my e-mails are now graced with the subject: "Please purchase emailchemy." I assume this will convert to the original subject lines once I purchase the program, right?

Just between you, me, and the entire discussion list, I will be ecstatic to no longer be using apple mail.app.
I honestly don't know if the subjects will change once you purchase the program. If I were you, I would purchase the program, then migrate the email. That way, the program will not change the subject lines.
