iTunes deleted all my songs, can I get them off my iPod?

iTunes deleted most of my library on accident and now I'm left with almost no music. The music remains intact on my iPod. Is there a way to sync my iPod with my computer so that my computer takes the music from my iPod, restoring my library?

Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.1), 1 GB Ram, a breaking monitor, and a broken combo drive :P

I'm not sure if there's a way to sync it, but there is a free program called sharepod. It should work most of the time, and it will walk you through on what to do. Hope it helps

You need a Mac compatible program.

Try Senuti.

It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.

As is Music Rescue.

Use one of these programs. they copy over almost anything on an ipod. i prefer idump. its free ,short, sweet and to the point. but any will do.

I used Senuti, and it got all the stuff off my iPod, but now I've lost all my play counts, etc. I have the original "itunes music library.xml" file, can I use that to get play counts back?

im not sure of play count but when i drag my music files into itunes(after using idump) itunes sorts and up dates all the tracks.i.e art work and other needed information automaticly.

I just confirmed that this doesn't work... if I knew the play counts of my songs, I could up the play count of the files... is there any way to upload smart playlists to my iPod without syncing it?

just had a similar problem. My portable HD crashed and lost over 40gb of music...
downloaded some of the recommended software but, same as you, I lost all the playcounts and ratings (this is the 3rd time it happens to me);
year 2008, the digital era, and still no solution for something this simple.
The only thing u could do is, before you sync your iPod, to switch between the two and copy all the ratings and playcounts...
boo-hoo... I lost it of over-40gb!!

Here's what I'm thinking of for a solution: on some of the programs, you can copy things over to your iPod without syncing. If I can add Smart Playlists that would give me such information as play count (to the nearest 10 or something like that) and ratings (I already have those playlists on my iPod) then I could get all the info off with any one of these programs and just take the time to set the playcounts, etc. I know, that's a lot of work, but I guess it has to be done...
