Password will be sent in the clear???

I'm trying to login to a site and type in my user name/password but it give me the message 'password will be sent in the clear' and it doesn't log in...what does this mean???

IMac G5 2ghz / 512, Mac OS X (10.4.3)

If you say it doesn't work, and you're sure it's the correct password, then I guess you answered your own question 🙂
