I'm getting extremely frustrated because I just bought a Macbook and it isn't recognizing my keyboard. I installed a recent generic driver from Yamaha that is supposed to work for all of their keyboards, it is listed in my midi drivers folder, but I don't see it in the audio midi setup. Am I doing something wrong? I'm a new mac user. The Keyboard is connected via a USB out built into the board (But this model only transmits midi information and no audio). There is no icon popping up in the finder like it would if I plugged in an external hard drive. Why won't this thing work? Please help!!
you need to contact Yamaha to see if their drivers are compatible with Leopard
a USB connection from the keyboard does not send audio to your mac. use the audio outs on the keyboard though an audio interface
the keyboard does not show up on your desktop like a HD. it should show up in your Audio Midi setup program. if it does not, it is most likely a driver issue
The latest driver is good to go with 10.5 Here is how to check if the board is being recognized. Go into system preferences while the board is on and connected via usb. At the very bottom in the "Other" section you will see Yamaha Midi-USB. If it shows you an active window where you can manipulate ports then it is being recognized. If the window is "grayed out" then there is something wrong with the connection. (Just as a general rule, I would not plug the USB connector into a hub unless it is powered.)
If you open Logic, play the board, look at the transport window and it should show which notes you are playing.
