How to open specific firewall port TCP / UDP

Hello everyone!

I have a question regarding opening specific ports of the Leopard firewall, if the fiewall is set NOT to allow all incoming connections. I need to open TCP 9386 and UDP 9385 to be able to use my Medialink Software to share data with my PS3, but I do not want to set the firewall to allow all incoming connections. Under OS X 10.4. this was easy, but how can I do it under Leopard. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone!

The problem with just adding the program maually to the firewall is that I cannot find the according file on my harddrive, I can see MediaLink only in the System Preferences window. So how can I add it to the allowed programs?

Again, same problem. The program is stored in /usr/local and I cannot browse there through the Finder, as Leopard seems to block / level access...

Hello everyone!

For those of you who have the same problem, I found a solution. Once the firewall is set to allow access for specific programs you need to update or "reinstall" the program MediaLink, and then I was automatically asked if I want to allow traffic from the program.

Thanks for the link to this article. I though the Leopard firewall had lost the ability to open specific ports for applications (like I could do in Tiger). But after reading this, I can see that the new system is actually an improvement, not a downgrade.

When browsing for the file in the open file dialog, type cmdshiftG to "Go to Folder." Then, type /var/local into the dialog that pops up.

Thanks for the great tip. Hadn't thought of using keyboard commands to circumvent dialogs. This trick will certainly come in handy in other situations.
