Import .abcdp files into address book

Import .abcdp files into address book

Hello-
I have all my address book contacts from my old computer ready to import into Address Book. My problem is they are .abcdp files and Address book won't import them. Weird, because their icon is that thing with a person and the @ symbol to the right of it. How can I import them, or atleast convert them to .csv files?

All help is gladly appreciated in advance!

Try this:

Quit Address Book.
Make a copy of folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook in case anything goes wrong.
Delete AddressBook-v22.abcddb from ~/Library/Application Support/.
Put your abcdp files in folder ~/Library/Application Support/MetaData.
Restart Address Book.

Tell us what happens.

They come from the same OS X version, 10.5.2
I tried dragging them to the address book icon and using all of the subcategories in the Import menu. When I try to import, it either says "No importable cards were found" or nothing happens. Weird, because when I quick look them the card appears as it would in Address Book. Thanks for helping though,

I am experiencing a very similar issue, except I am trying to import my .abcdp files from a recovered items folder after the meltdown of my old hard drive. When I found this possible fix I was excited, but I have been unable to find an AddressBook-v22.abcddb file or similar. I have tried to just copy and paste my .abcdp files into the MetaData folder (which I found in Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/) without success. Do you have any other suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions, bric3000.

If your computer data in your profile is correct you are running Tiger, not Leopard. The file you want to recover is AddressBook.data, and it should be in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook.

It might be possible to open them in TextEdit and get the data out. These are Address Book backups, so it's odd that an application can't open its own files.

What OS version did they come from? How did you try to import them? What happens when you try? Did you try dropping one of them on the Address Book icon in the dock?

Thanks, but this doesn't work either. It appears as a bunch of weird numbers (html???) in textedit.

Is the old OS still bootable? You could just export them as an AddressBook backup and import them into the New AddressBook

Also, I've read that the files can be read by Quickview if nothing else.
