clearing Clipboard?

Hello, all:
Is there a way to clear the Clipboard, or does each application have its own clipboard? When opening Photoshop Elements, for example, it said it could not open the clipboard because it was full. Also, while in a Microsoft Word document, I got a message that said to save now because I was running out of memory. Weird. It seems to be a Clipboard problem.

So, can I clear the clipboard?

Thanks!
~Chris

Probably something else then, but for future reference the quickest way to "clear" the clipboard is often just to copy something tiny. Select one character of text or a few pixels of a raster file and Copy. If something enormous was in the clipboard it replaces it. If there's an easier way I haven't learned yet, though, I'd love to be informed, too. A keyboard shortcut could be handy.

I'd like to hear some way to clear the clipboard other than copying something else into it. When I started PSE 6, it complained (twice each time it's started) that it can't "import the clipboard because of a problem parsing the PICT". What's on the clipboard is a snippet from an Excel document. I "cleared" it by copying one blank character to the clipboard. This is an annoying PSE 6 issue, but in general it would be nice to have a way to easily (key word here) clear the clipboard.
