My buddies don't show up as online when i know that they are

For the past few days when i log onto iChat its as if all of my buddies are offline(meaning their names are grey) but I know for a fact that some of them are online and using iChat. They say that they do not register me as online, even though it is green and says available under my name when i look at ichat. When i sign into AIM using the AOL application i have the same problem. I signed up for a new account and still have the same problem. What is going on? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks

Thanks..I tried that but it did not work. Meaning I changed my port to 443, and still iChat seems to think all buddies are offline (even aimbots) then i deleted iChat.aim.plist and ichatagent.plist, restarted each time and still it is as if everyone is off line. I even have this problem when i sign onto ichat on other computers, and with a new screenname i signed up for. No matter what computer i use, no buddies show up(meaning they are all in grey)...and this is when i am on the phone with a friend who is verifying that they are online. its like i am having some sort of ichat metaphysical problem.

any further advice is appreciated.

So did you try the top level method of force Quitting iChatAgent and deleting the .plists (Again) and restarting iChat ?

Have you tried a Reinstall of the 10.4.11 Combo Update ?
(In this list http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/ as there is a version for Intels and a version for PPCs)

same problem here, but i'm on 10.5.2.
have tried changing ports. restarting a couple of times.
have tried deleting 2 plists: com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist & com.apple.iChatAgent.plist

still not seeing buddies. i only have about 10.

haven't force quit the ichat agent yet, as no buddies online. will try that next.

now need to wait until another buddy is online. any other suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

I'm having the same problem. only about half of my buddies are shown as online and the other half are grey and offline when I know for a fact that they are online.

Previously, when I first started adding names I was having the fade in and out issue but resolved it by deleting plists and, ultimately, changing ports to 443. Now this problem. I have a headache. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks!

Hi
I have the same problem. Tried all:
- changed port
- reinstalled ichat
- reinstalled the 10.5.4 Combo Update
- deleted the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist & com.apple.iChatAgent.plist
but I still experience the same problem
* all of my buddies look as offline while the are not
* my buddies do not see me on line
* can not add buddies

what can I try more?

Hi Ralph
I already went through the post 1462798. I did delete the plist file and force quit the ichat-agent
I have also the following problem with ichat ( I think it is related to the other sintomps)
In the ichat>preferences>general I can not flag the box "show status in the menu bar"
in addition in the ichat>preferences>account no boxes are flagable

I aslo have to correct some info I previously posted....
I do not see any buddy on line but they can see me active, I can send them messagges but I can not
receive any message from them

I think ichat is beatng me...

Hi,

A MacBook is an Intel.

Currently my MacBook Pro in the Activity Monitor, with All Processes selected, shows that all items that are open or used by the OS are in fact Intel (I was sure Firefox would return Power PC). When I launch my 2001 version of Word it does say Power PC in the Activity Monitor.

If iChat is showing Power PC go to the Applications Folder.
Click once on iChat to Highlight then use the Apple Key and "I" Key together (Get Info)
This should open a Window that may fill the left hand side of your Screen depending on what reveal Triangles are in use.
Make sure the General section is viewable/open and check that iChat is not set to " Open Using Rosetta" (Some iChat add-ons that may not have been updated may require this).

Above this check box make sure the version is at 4.0.5 if you are at OS 10.5.4

If you have no iChat Add-Ons that are not Intel ready then uncheck the Rosetta check box.
