Scandinavian ÆØÅ bug in Mail. HEEEELP!!!

Hi everyone!

I have this REALLY annoying bug-issue. It seems that Mail won't handle the letters Æ Ø Å when sending emails. When I send an email, the recipient gets chinesee letters where æ ø å should be. I talked to Apple, and the guy I talked to had the same problem(!). However he refused that it was a bug from Apple's side, and suggested I'd go talk to Microsoft, as this only seems to happen with recipients using Outlook. But not everyone, mind you, which makes this a real hazard.

Here's what I've done so far:

I have been testing every text encoding in Mail

I have used 5 different email accounts. The .Mac account doesn't even work. However, Gmail works okay. Apple suggested this was a problem in the network, blaming it on the suppliers of my broadband. That might explain this to some extent, however every other mail account I have is almost useless. Not to mention how embarrassing it is trying to present something serious in buisness and have people calling saying it's impossible to read my emails. Try telling them that it's their Outlook that causes this, when they've never seen anything like it before. Chinesee letters! Can you believe it?

Does anyone here have a solution or some experience on how to avoid this? It did not happen in Jaguar or panther, only Tiger. I have 5 different email accounts, and the only one I can use is my gmail who buy the way is something like vanboogie or something rediciolous that makes my buisness look truly professional..(!)

Hope there's someone here who can help me!!

Found this text in a grou caller 99MAC (Sweden): http://www.99mac.se

..Snipp.. After additional testing the conclusion is that Mail MUST be forced to use same (UTF-8) encoding for both plain text and HTML sections in a mail. If this is true Outlook users will read International characters correctly in mail composed by Tiger Mail 2.0(.1).

This is done by first closing Mail app, open Terminal and then type:

defaults write com.apple.mail NSPreferredMailCharset "UTF-8"

Then fire up Mail and in Preferences -> Composing choose "Rich text" and "Use the same format as the original message".

All mails now composed with mixed content of rich text, graphics, attachments and International characters will be properly presented for Windows Outlook/OE users. Now all MIME sections will have UTF-8 as encoding. ..snipp..

Maby it will help.
