iBook G3 Safari?

One Question...How do I get my iBook G3 to download and use Safari for a Web Broswer. I accidentally deleted the Icon which was a little blue "e" and can't seem to find anything to access the Web with. Please help. Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions

Which version of OS X are you using? Safari is not available prior to OS X Jaguar - 10.2.8.

Most 3rd party browsers, such as Firefox, Camino require at least OS 10.2+.

I am using Version 10.1.
But I' not able to use the internet at all because I somehow deleted my Internet Icon and cannot seem to find it anywhere, so I am unable to use the Web.

Removing the icon from the Dock doesn't remove the application as it is only an alias file. Go to your Finder. There, open the Application folder. Do you see any Internet related apps?

Adding to QuickTime Kirk's post, if you are staying with OS 10.1, I realize Internet Explorer may be your only web browser option. If you do use IE, know this browser has not been supported by Microsoft since 2003, which makes this browser highly susceptible to security problems.

As an alternative, I suggest you upgrade OS X to at least OS X Jaguar. You can purchase a retail disk on eBay. With Jaguar, you'll have access to a number of secure browsers such as Firefox and Camino.

Hi

The more RAM the better. How much RAM is installed in your machine (go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac). Which G3 iBook do you own - see here?

You cannot upgrade the Video on your machine.

I'm not sure. My Mac is unresponsive right now due to the blue screen, so I'll have to solve that problem first.

Unresponsive blue screen sometimes = logic board failure. That would not be good. Perhaps a reset of the Power Management Unit (PMU) might revive the machine - instructions here.

Hi

Glad to hear the PMU reset restarted the machine.

128 RAM is too lean for OS X, especially Jaguar and later. Assuming you have a white iBook, then you can increase the RAM to around 640 for approximately $60 to $100 or so. If you have a Clamshell model, then RAM can only be increased to 256, which is still lean for OS X.

Which model do you own?
