Famous error 404 in URL of QuickTime

Have looked at all previous questions on this issue but can't find an answer.
I have an mv4 file.

a) If viewed via File / Open - the file is on my hard disk, and the video displays without any problem
b) If viewed via File / URL - I get error 404 "an unknown error occurred". My mv4 file has been uploaded to our server and I am sure the path is correct

I am now desparate as I cannot find an answer to this problem. Thank you very much for help.

Open QuickTime Player app and the Control-U to open the URL dialog window.
Enter the complete URL to the file found on your server (it will not start with file://) and click OK.
Wait for the file to begin downloading (Fast Start) or completely download for playback.

Thanks for helping me. I have done that by entering
http://www.netlearn-ch.com/fr/podcasts/02EB.m4v

The above URL is pointing to the m4v file on our server. I get the 404 error.

If I do simply File / Open in QuickTime and open the above m4v file stored on my hard drive, it works fine, showing that it is not a video problem per se.

There is something basic I obviously don't get. Thanks anyway for your help. Kind regards, Doris, Geneva, Switzerland

My best guess is that your server is not properly configured to use the .m4v file extension.
Ask them about the .htaccess file and ask them to add .m4v to the list of supported file extensions.
