audio not working for my ipod, help!

Alright, so here's the situation: everything seems to be working fine on my iPod. I purchased it a little over a year ago and it's been working perfectly until a few days ago. I'll go to my library, select a song and make it play. The "Now Playing" screen will come up, and it'll say that the song is playing, but the audio doesn't actually work. I've tried seeing whether it's the earphones I have, the iPod alarm clock I have, or the adapter I have for my car, but the earphones are new as is the alarm clock. The car adapters old, so I'm ok with that, but am I screwed? Do I have to get a new iPod? Should I restore the iPod? I might go to the Apple store by my house to see if they can figure it out, but I have nooo idea what the problem could be. I've also been searching through the forum history and of all the threads regarding the same issue, no one seems to have a solution.

i've read a couple of other threads about this problem and found a weird solution.. all you have to do is simply squeeze the bottom right of your iPod.. they made it sound like a little squeeze but what i had to do was put it on a table and push down with my fist pretty forcefully.. i actually hit it a couple of times and it started working.. hope this works for you

I am having a similar problem the difference is my sound is only coming out of one ear, the left one. The only way to get the right sound, is pulling out the headphones a little and playing with the wire to get the sound in both ears. What should I do? My ipod had a warrant for the first year, but now it's the second year and I have no warranty and now this ipod messes up. Help me please.

THIS LADY HELPED ME OUT ALOT U HAVE TO PRESS REALLY HARD BETWEEN THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON AND PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON. I DIDNT HAVE TO USE TOOLS BUT JUST MY FINGERS DID IT. IT WORKS NOW BC I HAD NO SOUND AT ALL

ant23, I'm not sure if you found a fix but I saw your post trying to fix my ipod which had the same problem. No sound with headphones or any other devices. As odd as this sounds, I noticed I could get some static when I touched the lowerright hand corner if the front of the ipod is facing you. I had my husban squeeze that area between his index finger and thumb as hard as he could and it would play fine. You have to squeeze really hard. I took a sock and wrapped the lower corner in it, so I wouldn't break the glass front and pressed hard with pliers. As long as I squeezed it would play. I actually ended up denting the back in alittle. It plays fine now. You have to be really careful not to break the glass. I know it sounds rediculous but it worked. I don't want you to break your ipod so be careful. It's the lower corner on the right between this >>| and >||. Try squeezing that corner really hard with your fingers first and see if you get sound. If you do then you will know that is it.

I was having the exact same problem. I tried the suggested solution of pressing down really hard for 4 seconds between the fast forward and play button and it worked! Before, my audio didn't work even though everything else was working fine. The songs would come up and look like they were playing, but nothing was coming out of the earphones. After pressing down on that area for about 4 seconds, the sound came through just fine.
