ATV not authorized to play this content ?????

I am running ATV on a wireless network via Time Capsule. The ATV set up was easy out of the box but when I went to play content on my iTunes account I kept getting the "ATV not authorized warning". Also the ATV would not play YouTube content. I called tech support and was on the line with a second level product specialist. We tried several options over 1.45 minutes. I was told that someone would get back to me with a solution in a few days. I decided not to wait and instead went to my local Apple store and exchanged the ATV for a new one just to see if in fact it was a hardware issue. The set up for the second ATV was as smooth as the first but again, that annoying message kept appearing.
Here is the solution that worked for me. I set up ATV and left it on the main menu. I went to iTunes on my mac and could see the ATV in the device menu. Everything seemed ok on that end. 1. Go to the store menu in iTunes and click "deauthorize". 2. After iTunes tells you that you have successfully "deauthorized" this computer, go ahead and select "authorize this computer" in the same menu pane. 3. Then go back to the ATV and unplug the power cord wait 30 seconds. 4. Plug the power cord back in and watch the ATV restart itself. 5. Go back to the iTunes acct on your pc or mac and when you click on the ATV in the device menu, go to the screen that allows you to set the sync options, im talking about the one that allows you to choose to sync music for instance, but manualy choose playlists not all content. 6. choose the manual function and just have it set up so that you are only syncing lets say a small playlist of songs nothing else. What im getting at is when I initially set up ATV on my iTunes acct it was defaulted to sync everything, Movies,Music, Photos etc. But for this trial attempt I just wanted to limit the sync to just a few songs so that I could quickly see if the ATV would infact allow me to play them. Also make sure in your iTunes playlist that you are syncinig , that all the songs are checked. When you go back to the ATV select Youtube and see if it loads the YouTube content, if that works, you are halfway there. Then select music from the ATV menu , then Mymusic on the right side of the menu and you should see you single playlist that you synced there on the screen, cover art etc. Now try to play a song, and it should work. It worked for me.
I hope this helps you all as I do think there is some glitch with the iTunes acct you allready have and the ATV allowing the authorization of all the content on that acct. I will send this to the Apple support team in order to help them naorrow down the problem. Hopefully it will help them trying to solve the problem so others will not have to deal with it.
good luck and feel free to email me if you want to chat about it more.

I believe I am having the same issue. My Apple TV doesn't seem to play music that I have purchased on iTunes on my computer for the past couple of years. It will play all the CD's in my collection that I imported. I also cannot access YouTube.

I have deauthorized my computer and reauthorized and each time I do it iTunes begins syncing with Apple TV. Each time there is over 200 items that it syncs with. This is about the 3rd time I've done this and each time so far it appears to add more.

I'm going to continue down this path and see what happens. Maybe there is an issue when it has to sync for the first time?

I'm on a wireless N network with a linksys WRT350N. Win XP Pro

After looking through the posts it appears that this is a issue. Hopefully, we'll see a fix soon.

Thanks -

Don't forget that after you Deauthorize and reauthorize your computer you have to then unplug the ATV for a few seconds then plug it back in. It should work. Also to prevent it from syncing all 200 items, click on the ATV in your device menu on itunes and select the manual option which will then increase the options on the top of the ATV pane which will have choices like, music, photos, movies etc...that way you can go and only have it sync just one little playlist of songs...just to get it started.. Hope it works.

hi
i have the same problem. atv will play stream content but for some reason it will recongize as authorized for anything else. keeps saying not authorized. i've reset the settings to factory twice, no help. we have two and i though maybe it was confusing the network so i unplugged one, same problem. i'll give your work around a try but this is very very frustrating.
