Backup disk image could not be created!

Question

Backup disk image could not be created!

I have a new 1T Time Capsule, which I added to my already 802.11n wireless network.
I changed my Time Machine backup location to my Time Capsule.
I clicked Back Up now and got the message "Time Machine Failed; backup disk image could not be created."
Just to see if it is the Time Capsule, I copied a quicktime movie file to the Time Capsule and played it with.
Any other ideas about what to do to make Time Machine work well with Time Capsule?

Macbook; G5; iBook, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

You need to give your computer's local network a name.

System Preferences --> Sharing

And at the top of the sharing pane should be a text box. If that box is empty, then you need to give your mac a name.

My machine has a name but still receive this message.

Using AirPort Extreme though.

I am having the same problem. I had a name in the field, but it was long and had an apostrophe, I changed it... but that didn't help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

this solved my issue too ! at first, when I read the post I thought: hey that doesn't apply to me, of course the computer has a share name. apparently it didn't. i assigned one and off we go with the backup. Thx.

Worked for me to. Been working for at least 6 months though. Updated latest firmware about a month a go and it hasn't been backing up since. Just got round to looking at it today and the sharename fixed it.

Thankyou, that solved the problem for me too. It would be nice if the error said to give your iMac a name in the sharing preferences.
