Excluding messages from Smart Mailboxes

Hi,

I have been having a lot of fun setting up smart mailboxes - but is there any way for me to exclude items from them. So for example, suppose I wanted to create a smartmailbox which showed all my new emails from the past 7 days, is there a way for me to exclude emails from someone named Chris?

Vishal,

then you need two smart mailboxes (SBs).

The first one collects all messages with your conditions (arrived in the last 7 days or flagged).

The second SB has two conditions:
1. "E-Mail in mailbox" "your 1st_smartmb" and
2. "Sender is member of group" "your_group" (group without Chris).

Maybe it's a good idea to create a folder for smart mailboxes and put these two SBs into that folder.

PS: I translated the conditions from German. The appropriate condition in your Mail.app might be called different.

Jeffrey,

in a smart mailbox you can only define that it contains e-mails meeting either "one" or "all" criterions.

So, Vishal set up a smart mailbox that contains all e-mail meeting one of the criterions "arrived in the last 7 days" or "flagged".

If he now adds "From does not contain Chris", he gets all mails not from Chris. These are however not necessarily those arrived in the past 7 days or those flagged.

I use Mail.app with an exchange server and there is a collection of "public" folders which I never read. Currently there are over 22,000 (not kidding!) unread emails in that folder. Because I cannot filter out this collection of mailboxes (not a single folder, but everything within "Public") it makes it impossible to use a Smart Mailboxes for collecting new messages productively in this enironment.

I wish there was a guide on how-to modify and/or tap the power of these smart folders.

Thanks!

Hi Mathhias,

Life is more complicated than that! I have my smartbox set to show either messages that have arrived in the last 7 days, or messages that are flagged (messages that I don't want to disappear from my inbox)...So I have two conditions, which operate under the OR statement, and I need one more which has to be part of an AND statement.
