Wake From Sleep ... Password Twice

I've done some searching around here and haven't come up with anything that seems familiar to my issue. So I thought I'd throw a new topic out there.

I have my Macbook set to ask for a password when it wakes from sleep. Three-quarters of the time when I type in the password and hit enter, I see the desktop for half a second and then am immediately sent back to the password dialogue box to put my password in again. It always lets me in after the second password entry.

Notes about the Leopard installation: I did an archive and install with the Leopard update dvd, which I got for $10 because it was released so soon after buying. Could the need for a second password have something to do with some sort of remnant of Panther? Probably not but I thought I'd ask.

It's not a huge issue but I think about it every time I have to type it in twice.

Thanks, in advance, for any thoughts or advice.

Hello To All,
I have the same issue on 3 out of 4 of our home computers. Two users favor a bluetooth mouse, one user has a USB mouse, and one does not use a mouse. You might be right about the mouse, as the user that does not use a mouse has no issues with the computer recognizing their password on the 1st attempt upon wake from sleep. The rest of our computers have the same issue, where either the screen flashes for a moment and then takes me back to the log in screen or sometimes it does not recognize the right password at all on first attempt. Now, I know that sometimes this could be user input error, but not every time. In my case it happens almost every time on our computers that we use a mouse to operate them.
I have done all the usual steps to fix a problem, such as hard drive check with the computer OS disk, repair the user permissions, and reset the PRAM. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone else have any ideas or a fix?

Oh, and to add to my post above, I did a clean install of Leopard on all of my Macs plus made sure that the all of the passwords met the required parameters for Leopard. I called the help desk about this issue once and the Apple Tech asked me to do all of the steps over again that were recommended in the support section. I did so, but it still did not resolve the issue. This apple tech, not like most, was rather curt with me, as she insisted that I was not following her instructions. Because of a disability it takes me longer to follow steps, but I was doing exactly what she requested. I am sure she was reading the steps to me, but they weren't working. She did not offer to forward my my issue to a more knowledgeable tech, so we have just lived with the double entry of passwords upon reboot from sleep.

I have had this problem with Tiger and with Leopard. I haven't been able to pin it down to anything in particular. My use may differ from others slightly as I connect and disconnect from my external monitor about twice a day. My biggest fear is that this is some type of trojan that's been living on the Internet for years and has affected many machines!! Ok, worst case scenario, anyway, can we get this fixed?! 10.5.5? Snow Leopard?....

Same problem here.

I noticed that it happens everytime I unplug my mouse's USB dongle while it is still in the USB port. (Mac sleeping, lid closed)
Everytime I try to do that, my Mac would act as if its waking, even though lid is still closed.
Hence, password twice! Yay!
Doesn't bother me that much tho
Probably some bug.

Sometimes it even gave me a black screen after I enter my password
Closing the lid for a few sec, and waking it again seems to solve everything

Take care guys
