Design Website w/Text Edit and Publish

Hello,

I am currently learning (in school) how to write a website in TextEdit using tags and such. I have two questions regarding this:

1. When I save the html file and open it with Safari or Firefox, the tags do not seem to be recognized or activated. I just see the document excatly how I wrote it. (With tags and all) When I bold something in the TE document with out any tags whatsoever, I still get a bold text. Do I need tags for publishing?

2. How can I publish my finish work to the web? I am not familiar with iWeb. I am only making the website with TE so that I can customize it, and don't have to stick to any of the iWeb themes. So just wondering how I can publish my html Text Edit document to the web.

Thanks,

You simply saved it as a text file.

1. Use plain text. (Cmd-Shift-T or vice versa)
2. Save as Unicode UTF-8.
3. Save with extention .html. Confirm when asked.

Better use a decent HTML Editor. [Taco HTML|http://tacosw.com> is very simple.

And learn to solve these issues. Besides, your problem has nothing to do with iWeb either. So learn to distinguish between problems too.

You need to have space on a server someplace, either .Mac or another one. Then you upload your file to this space. With .Mac you use drag/drop, with another server you use ftp. iWeb cannot be used for what you are doing.

When using TextEdit to produce code, make sure go to the Preferences and set everything to Plain Text (not Rich Text) and check the box for "ignore rich text commands in html."

I download this, and found that it was a great software product. Thanks

What is that supposed to mean? I put this in the iWeb forum because that is where people who are knowledgeable about website are, and I wasn't sure where else to put it.

When I go to .Mac/Homepage/Themes/Advanced and select my homepage, I get the following error:

HomePage found the following issues with the HTML page you chose. Please fix these issues and try again: The "<BODY ... >" tag is missing.

How can that be? My website is as follows:

<html>
<body>

Website Text

</body>
</html>

Those are the right tags, are they not?
Also, I am using TacoHTML Editor, and the html and body tags are automatically inserted at the beginning of each document.
