Can read a written DVD+R DL, but not an empty DVD-R DL

Hello,

My iBook G4 has been able to read written DVD+R DL disks, but when I put in an empty DVD-R DL disk, it keeps coming out. I don't understand why i can read a 'full' disk, but not an empty one. Can I do something about this?

Does your iBook have a combo drive or a super drive? The combo drive can read DVDs but will NOT write data to blank DVDs.

You can run System Profiler to learn the capabilities of the drive.

The System Profiler says I can read DVD's and write DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW.
Is it possible that he only reads DVD's on which he is able to burn?

An empty disc should be one that it can burn to. Can you elaborate on what type of disc you are referring to in your first post?

It's a Fujifilm DVD-R Dual Layer, 240 min or 8.5 GB.
I'm guessing that my computer cannot write Double Layered DVD's, so it spits this empty one out...

If your iBook does not list "DL" in the abilities of the CD/DVD drive, the iBook can not burn dual layer discs and therefore they are ejected.
