My MB does not go to Sleep

My MB does not go into Sleep mode even if left running overnight. I have the same OS10.5.2 on an ext HDD and it does go to sleep mode when running from the ext. HDD. Energy save preferences is set to "normal". Makes no difference if set to "better energy savings" or "better performance". Appreciate any help. Thanks. Roger

Hi Roger,

First, make sure there's nothing running that would prevent the Mac from sleeping. Lots of applications can run in the background and OS X sees this as activity, so it doesn't put the computer to sleep.

Secondly, try resetting your SMC by shutting down the computer, disconnecting the power supply, removing the battery, and holding down the power key for 10 seconds.

If that doesn't fix it, reset your NVRAM by rebooting the mac while you hold command option+PR. Continue holding the keys until the Mac restarts.

Hi bdkjones,
Thanks for the quick reply. But I don't suspect it has to do with resetting the SMC or PRAM because my MB does go to sleep mode when I startup from an ext. HDD. I deliberately close all applications so no apps running except iStat which monitors temp, fan speed. I doubt this application is the cause, but I will try disabling it from the System Preferences now.
