Disk Warrior refuses to install on any mac computer

Have tried getting help from alsoft... no luck.
Anyone know how to install disk warrior on my hard drive without getting the stupid corrupted prefs file warning?
first, there is no pref file... second... how can it be corrupted if it doesn't exist? I get the same error trying to install it on any computer ( which obviously doesn't have a pref file setup yet for disk warrior).

Is this a built in bug in that disk warrior always gives the same installation warning no matter which mac I install it on?

I paid $136 for Disk Warrior, can't return it and it will not install on an imac, ibook running either panther or leopard.

Anyone know of a good fire sale for this piece of crap software? Sorry I even bought it.

How can I force disk warrior to install on any mac computer?

Ibook 12" G4 1.2 Ghz, external 160 gb hd, bluetooth keyboard/mouse

As a last attempt, I decided to retry installing disk warrior again. Copied Disk Warrior once again to the utilities folder after complaining to Alsoft over a week ago. Ejected the DiskWarrior CD. Ran the program and it ran without giving any errors.

I think there must be some kind of copy protection on the software which went amuck and prevents installation on more than one computer even though I cancelled out of installing it on the first attempt.
Has anyone had this issue with Disk Warrior refusing to install on any mac computer because of an alleged corrupted prefs file that doesn't exist?

Hi there, pickmynose (charming!). You haven't told us what the "stupid corrupted prefs file warning" that has you so angry actually says, or when it appears, or what Alsoft says about it. Nor have you said what version of DiskWarrior you're trying to install. If you're actually looking for help instead of just ranting, these would be useful pieces of information to supply.

I've never had any problem installing any version of DiskWarrior on any of eight or ten different Macs or on any of several external Firewire drives and partitions connected to any of those Macs.

The list price of DiskWarrior, on a new bootable CD or by downloading it directly from Alsoft, is $99.95 USD. I'm not sure why you paid 36% over list for it.

Weird thing is... never had it installed on this computer. Ran the software installer and it kept crashing. Tried installing it on other computers... same issue.
Obviously a bug in the installer or copy protection.
Who knows why its such a pain to install. Sure doesn't speak well for it supposedly being a good disk fixer.
Anyways since 4.1 is for both intel and power pc it was surprising that it wouldn't install on either since neither had any previous install. Alsoft says I must have installed a shortcut instead of the actual program... funny... is that how their installer works?
The only thing I did different the second time was to eject the cd after copying the program to utilities. Then it suddenly decided to work. Weird..

It says there is a corrupted prefs file for Disk Warrior. Funny since there was no previous install and no such file exists... please explain how that could be?

After paying $136 I do have a right to rant for poorly designed software that won't install since it means I'm out a lot of money for something that won't work. That is unless Alsoft wants to provide a refund... they didn't respond after I asked for a refund to return the software so I'll take that as a, "NO!" Buyer beware!

I do live in Canada. We are still paying more for software than in the US. I have version 4.1 and it is for intel and power pc (neither installation worked for a week).

As stated, after trying a week later and ejecting the CD before installing into my utilities folder.... suddenly the installation worked. Maybe they should have a line that says eject CD first before installing if that is an issue?

Still no idea why it wouldn't install but obviously other people are going to run into similar problems at some point in time. For a product that has a lot of hype about it being so great, obviously there are some bugs to work out.

hi there, i read your post, and it seems that you know how to use disk warrior, the huge detail i have is that, it did work on my imac, the bad thing is that i restarted the imac with the disk warrior, now i can't get access to the system preferences, in order to boot from tiger, heeeeeeeeeeeelp, i don't know how to get it out, and all the commands in order to eject the cd, won't do, it just keeps on mounting DW.

gracias

Hi, Ninou. Choose the Restart command from the Apple menu. After the startup chime, immediately press the mouse button. Keep holding it down until the DW disc is ejected, then release the button. The machine should start up normally from whatever volume you previously selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
