New keyboard compatibility with OS 10.4.4

Our babysitter spilled a fizzy drink on the keyboard and, despite following some of the cleaning tips on these boards, I'm still without several functional keys (for instance, any "p" here is copied and pasted.

The online Apple store sells only aluminium keyboards – fine by me but the site tells me they are compatible only with OS 10.4.10 upwards. Would this present a problem if I want to boot my Mac from the 10.4.4 system disk that came with it (sorry – can't be bothered looking for a question mark to cut and paste – or a close brackets.
