Leopard CUPS Server - CUPS 1.1 clients

Hello,

I would like to print from CUPS 1.1 clients to a CUPS server running on Leopard 10.5.2.

The CUPS 1.1 clients are not capable of using utf-8 characters.
Updating the clients is not possible.

lpstat -a

I get on the client:
lpstat: get-printers failed: client-error-bad-request
On the server:
Unsupported character set "iso-8859-1"!

How can I fix this? Or should I wait for an update?

Regards.
