ipod 1.3 firmware vs. iTunes version

Any issues with the 1.3 firmware and particular version of iTunes? I currently have the 7.6.0.29 Windows version (one version older than current 7.6.1). I just wonder if there are any problems like what happened with 1.2.2.

Otherwise, general consensus on the update? Does it seem to be stable, or should I wait awhile?

Personally, I haven't had any problems. It added a vertical scrollbar to the right side of the iPod interface, but this is neither a seller nor a problem for me. Aside from that, it doesn't seem to have done too much that I notice. I really liked the 1.2.2 update, which substantially increased the sync transfer speed. This one doesn't seem to have done as much.

Also, I don't have any info on the iTunes versioning issue that plagued the earlier update. I haven't heard about, though, and the last time, there was almost instantaneous squawking (and, I believe, Apple warned people not to upgrade without the correct version of iTunes)

Sorry, I put the wrong text in my reply to you. During my searches to solve my own problem, I found this, which sounds similar to the problems you're having.

A few readers are reporting problems applying the update, receiving error messages indicating that the target iPod "could not be found." Users in this predicament can refer to Knowledge Base article #304508, which offers a number of potential solutions for inability to restore or update iPods in iTunes 7 or later. (The URL for KB article #304508 is http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304508
).
Just sharing what I found. I don't know if this will help.

I have an iPod "classic" 60G. After installing 1.3, my iPod does not respond to the wheel or select button, but does sense the lock slider. Also, when connected to iTunes, the iPod shows the "do not disconnect" screen forever. I just waited 6 hours and it did not go away. However, I can seem to update the iPod with new playlists, etc. I've been throught the 4 R's, I have updated my OS, made sure I'm running the latest iTunes (loaded it again anyway), and have reset my iPod four times now.
Before installing this update, my iPod battery had run all the way down, but I recharged fully before installing the update.
Any help or similar situations?

What you can do now is, restore the iPod. That will solve the problem if it is software related, other wise you may have to visit the Apple Store!
About the DO NOT DISCONNECT, it does show as long as you keep it connected to iTunes, even if you keep it connected to infinity, except if your iPod dies! hehe
so don't worry about that, just press the eject button in iTunes.
