Software Update Stopped Working

On my 10.5.2 Macbook Air, Software Update has stopped working. I've run updates on the machine before, most recently yesterday. Software Update thinks for a second, then errors with:

Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, then try again.

Console error shows up as:

Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1004 UserInfo=0x7a7290 "can't connect to host".

The machine is indeed on the internet, I can browse my own network as well as websites with both Safari and Firefox. I have a Macbook Pro sitting right next to it that is able to access Software Update, so I know it's not an Apple Server or an internet connection thing.

I've tried deleting the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist files in both my Users folder as well as \Library, but no luck.

Since experiencing the error, the machine has been restarted several times, powered off several times, etc, so it looks like the problem is here to stay.

Any ideas?

In case you haven't found the solution for your Software Update not working because it says not connected to the internet here's the solution. I had the same issue and found out that my software update application became corrupt. I downloaded the application called SoftwareUpdateEnabler104.dmg You can download it at this site http://crustacea.nhm.org/appleupdate/ Make sure when you run the application you choose "for all users on this computer."
