"Could not find specified message for index 17" SpeedTouch

I am trying to use the latest version of the SpeedTouch USB modem for 10.4 Tiger. However, whenever I am trying to run the package with the installer after the initial start up screen a pop up window comes up and asks me "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed. Are you sure you want to continue" - when I press "continue" I get the following error message:
"SpeedTouch USB cannot be installed on this computer. Could not find specified message for index 17."

It looks like there seems to be a file missing somewhere. However this file seems to be missing within Tiger OS X as according to the software vendor the software normally works. Would anyone know where to look for this?

Thanks for any help!

Max, you'll probably see quite a few (eloquent) messages from Tim on this forum regarding the problems you'll likely experience with the Speedtouch 330 USB modem.

This shouldn't be interpretted as an indication that he's the only one to have had a bad experience with this horrible piece of kit.

I've had to try getting 330's running on numerous Macs and they cause me no end of problems. Invariably the only way to get them working is by reinstalling the operating system and then installing the modem drivers (which I'm sure you'll agree is a bit over the top).

Do yourself a favour and buy an ethernet router-modem - and while you're waiting for it to turn up, write to whoever sent you the Speedtouch and tell them how utterly rubbish it is!
