Time Machine and AirPort update in Software update

Hi Joe,

I had done the same thing as you. But I guess my Airport Utility is set to automatically update. For those who have not done so, go to Utilities-Airport Utility. In the toolbar click on Airport Utility-Check for Updates.

Interesting. After both the Airport update and the firmware update when I click on the hard disk icon within airport utility I now see my HP Photosmart 8100 printer/scanner/copier listed, although with 0 mb capacity. The Photosmart does have the ability to handle various memory card devices so this is apparently what is triggering its discovery.

For those of you wondering, this update does NOT fix the Time Machine/AEBS bug. In my opinion, this is very poor of Apple. I have just disconnected my AEBS and put it on ebay. I don't think Apple intends to fix it, as they have come out with TimeMachine.

It will be a LONG time before I run out and buy the latest anything from them.

Had a weird glitch with this one. After starting it through software update, my macbook pro rebooted and got stuck at the white apple screen. It sat there for a while (like 10 minutes) so I force shutdown. It rebooted normally after that so I hope there's no problems!

What bug?

He's probably referring to how you cannot use Time Machine with a disk connected to the AEBS.

I don't think that is a bug. It is probably intentional or they will add that functionality later.

Actually, I've seen many reports online that these updates DO enable time machine over a drive connected to AEBS. Are you saying this based on trying it and having it not work, or just assuming this doesn't fix it?

ok, so my MBP crashes every single time I try to initiate a Time Machine backup since today's update (Airport Utility & Security Update). I've sent 5 Crash Reports. I've updated to Airport Utility 5.3.1 and updated the Time Capsule Firmware.

No idea what I should do now, I've basically paid £329 for an N network.

Okay, I got the firmware upgrade (to 7.3.1) installed on the Time Capsule and (eventually) got the bugger restarted. It came up solid amber several times, then finally went to green. That said, it's really cooking on the Time Capsule backup speed now. The Time Machine Backup progress pop up window has reappeared as well. I've got about 130GB to back up, so we'll see if the new updates can do it in less than a week. 🙂

BTW, I'm connected via gigabit ethernet to the TC and have it bridge to my AEBS. The TC has it's wireless mode turned off right now.

Well, the Time Capsule "went away" again. This happens a lot. It started doing the back up, then lost connection with the TC. Now the TC doesn't show up in the Finder or in the Airport Utility, even though I'm connected to it directly via the ethernet port and wirelessly. Argh! I hate to be a complainer, but this seems really, really poor performance on Apple's part.

yup, I've had a dropped connection whilst backing up after 1GB, and post-updates, TM gave up and I lost wireless, it only happens when TM is running.
