smtpout.secureserver.net problemsa

I have a personalized email address through godaddy. I have set up Mail to send and receive email for this account. Following all the instructions, I can receive mail without any trouble, but with smtpout.secureserver.net as my out going mail and using port 80 or 3535, per Godaddy's directions, I will get the "cannot send mail using this server, try a different server" error message. If I select the exact same server, the email will send and then sometimes it subsequent emails will send with out any error messages. Then all of a sudden I get the error message again, and then selecting the same server will allow outgoing mail again, sometimes just for that one email, and sometimes for several before getting the error again.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

I don't know what's causing this but I have not been able to download my Go Daddy email either via Apple Mail. I even spent 2.5 hours at the Apple Store yesterday trying to figure this out. The Genius was stumped!

For months I was getting the same message you describe and then on Monday, March 24th, around 10-11 pm EST it completely stopped downloading my email from any of my mail accounts (Yahoo and Gmail) but I was able to send. I was able to receive email via the Go Daddy web mail interface and through Thunderbird. We deleted the mailboxes and the keychain passwords but nothing. The Genius was able to get my Yahoo and Gmail accounts to work but when we tried to re-set up the Go Daddy accounts, it just times out. It recognizes the incoming mail server (pop.secureserver.net) quickly but just hangs when it's searching for smtpout.secureserver.net.

It's extremely frustrating and a total waste of time but I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one this is happening to. I would really rather not use Thunderbird or go back to Entourage.

Oh, and I installed Leopard about 2 months ago.
