Mixed "g" and "n" Networks

I have older Macbooks with wireless "g" that cannot be upgraded, an HP Printer with wireless "g", and a Macbook Pro with wireless "n". I am contemplating getting an Airport Extreme "n" but was wondering how badly, or not, having "g" units connected degrades performance vs. if everything was "n"?

Using 802.11g devices on an 802.11n (b/g) network does degrade performance, but not down to 802.11g levels.

However having a single 802.11n cmputer, why would you want an 802.11n network? There would be very little advanatge (if any) in having an 802.11n network if you already have an 802.11g wireless router.
