I don't see why they couldn't have some sort of feature for this in their portal app for when the look up the serial numbers to see if computers are still under warannty, etc.
I understand what you're saying Ryan. Apple, or indeed any other company that sells goods, are not enforcement agencies. Keeping track of who's the registered owner of one of their products relies on everyone registering that product. When they then resell it the new owner will then need to register and so on.
That said, you would have noticed from the link I provided that it states "Apple does not have a
formal flagging process for reporting stolen property". The emphasis being on the word "formal". Do also report the theft to Apple. Although I am obviously not sure I think it's fair to assume that there often is information transfer between them and the police.
Anyway, I already reported to the police, but doubt i'll ever get it back. I hate theives.
That's your best course of action. Is the computer insured? You'll be able to make a claim if it is. I would agree that the unfortunate truth is that you are not likely to get it back. Ditto on the thieves thing also.
