Report Stolen Laptop?

So, my 9 month old Macbook Pro was stolen tonight, and was wondering if there was anyway for Apple to flag the serial number as "stolen" if someone were to take it to an apple store or apple authorized reseller to have it possibly repaired in the future? Please let me know.

Thanks

Hi again Ryan,

I don't see why they couldn't have some sort of feature for this in their portal app for when the look up the serial numbers to see if computers are still under warannty, etc.

I understand what you're saying Ryan. Apple, or indeed any other company that sells goods, are not enforcement agencies. Keeping track of who's the registered owner of one of their products relies on everyone registering that product. When they then resell it the new owner will then need to register and so on.

That said, you would have noticed from the link I provided that it states "Apple does not have a formal flagging process for reporting stolen property". The emphasis being on the word "formal". Do also report the theft to Apple. Although I am obviously not sure I think it's fair to assume that there often is information transfer between them and the police.

Anyway, I already reported to the police, but doubt i'll ever get it back. I hate theives.

That's your best course of action. Is the computer insured? You'll be able to make a claim if it is. I would agree that the unfortunate truth is that you are not likely to get it back. Ditto on the thieves thing also.

Well regarding this situations, there's an application that may help you to recover your Mac. It's called Undercover and you can see more information [here|http://www.orbicule.com/undercover>.

Well, in your case, it won't help you too much, once this application had to be installed earlier, but here's a recommendation to other users! 🙂

We were on a vacation and my laptop was stolen. I've read the discussions above...what/who would be the best way to let Apple know that my laptop was stolen? I've looked for an email or a link of some sort and haven't been able to find one. If I call....what department would I ask for? Thank you for your help.
