hardware installation

i recently downloaded the new itunes and before i did i could connect my ipod and itunes would pop up and sync my ipod automatically. now i connect my ipod and a window comes up saying

the software you are installing for this hardware

apple ipod USB driver

has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows XP

continuing your installaton of ths software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed windows logo testing

continue anyway STOP installation

when i click continue anyway a window pops up that says

files needed

the file 'usbaapl.sys' on Mobile Device Setup Disk s needed

Type the path where the fileis located, and then clck OK

i dont know what to do or what this is talking about but itunes will not let me sync my ipod!
...some update lol

please help me out

thanks

Windows XP, laptop

There is an Apple help on this here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306640

Note that if you get to the point where you try reinstalling iTunes, the article recommnds full removal of iTunes first.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698

I should add, that is all the related components of iTunes, not just iTunes

OK I am probably not going to be able to help then.

But out of interst how are you installing iTunes? Are you downloading the installer and running it from your PC or are you running it from your browser?

If you saved it on your PC did you save it somewhere simple like your desktop? Some paths may upset the installer.

You could check the Windows error logs to see if there is anything useful. Also it is possible to get iTunes to generate an install log, howver I have no experince interpreting it. May be there will be clue what is going on there.

Open a cmd Window – Start>>RUN CMD
Drag iTunesSetup.exe to command window to get full path
Then after it type a space then:
/l*v C:\log.txt

The installer will create a log file c:\log.txt

cannot install this hardware

apple ipod USB driver

an ereeor occurred during the installation of this device

the driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or is not signed in the appropriate manner. contact your hardware vendor

then all it says is click finish to close the wizzard

Saving the iTunes installer to your desktop and running it from there should be fine.

I am afraid I am stuck with this one. I will see if I can gte someone esle to help.

In the mean time the only other ting I can think of is emptying your temp directory as suggested in the latter part of this article on trouble with installing:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

If you are still there, a suggetion from bnoir is that it is worth looking for digital singing issues.

Before we do that, it might be worth downloading another copy of the installer just in case there was is a problem with the copy you have.

If that doesn't help try working through method 4 in this Microsoft article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

It involves reregistering the dlls associated with digital signing. You should be able to copy and paste each line into the command window to avoid having to type the lines.

If you get any error messages while doing this, make a note of them.
