Flip4mac alternative

Flip4Mac makes Windows Media files viewable on a Mac and is what Microsoft recommend we use:

Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)

If you will never use Flip4Mac, then why don't you delete/trash the file? Why keep it on your system hogging up valuable HD space?

The F4M Player takes up exactly 448k of space. Hardly worth the energy to "dis" it. Use it...don't use it..whatever. It really doesn't care, and so shouldn't you. The important part is that the free F4M plug in is the only game in town that enables playback of wmv content in your Mac's browser. And that preference pane associated with it, allows some handy customizable settings to be made, but it can be ignored as well.

The problem with flip4mac is that it requires that you remove other wmv playing/exporting components to install it. I already had a wmv export codec which prevented flip4mac from installing. If there is a wmv video online which I really want to view, i download it, watch it with VLC and then throw it out. Flip4Mac causes problems with FCP as well.
