Canon HV10 not recognized by iMovie 8 (7.1.1) or iMovieHD (6.03)

I've tried to import a movie from my Canon HV-10 to an iMac G-5 (not intel) unsuccessfully w/either program. The camera is set to "play" and HDV, I'm connected via a FW cable (new) and I've verified that the FW port is good, and the date and time are correct. I've also unplugged the cable and turned the camera on/off multiple times. I've tried it on my G-4 iMac as well and it won't auto detect. From reviewing the guidelines it appears that this camcorder is not supported. I've checked this forum for solutions but can't find anything. Do I have any other options to import the movie?

Thanks for any help!

The Canon HV-10 IS compatible with iMovie HD 06, in both DV and HDV resolutions.

I have a Canon HV-10 and it plays fine with iMovie HD 6. I think I tried it with iMovie 08 once and it was also detected.

Not sure why yours is not detected. I know there are a number of options on the HV-10 side to select DV or HDV from the firewire port etc, as well as sound bit rate - not sure if changing these will help.

Don't want to sound too basic, but did you choose Video mode when you set it yo play (not Photo mode which by the way you have to choose if you want iPhoto to recognise and download pics from the camcorder).

Hope you get it going. The HV-10 is a great little camcorder.

I have experienced the same problem. First with an iMac G5 and now with a recently bought Mac Pro. The iMovie version installed in the iMac is 5.0.2, in the Mac Pro I suppose it's the latest one. First, I tried to connect using an USB cable, then as the computer didn't recognize the camera I tried again with an old FW cable from a iMac G3 I once had, without any avail.

P. S.: In the Mac Pro System Profiler HV10 is recognized in its FireWire bus.

Success: I have been reliably able to connect my Cannon HV10 to my MacBook Pro 17" laptop using any 6 to 4 pin firewire cable. 6 to 4 pin cable photo at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

Problem: However, when I first tried connecting the HV10 to a recently purchased (March 2008) MacPro using the Firewire same cable to the front Firewire port, I was at first unsuccessful.

Workaround: In my case, I was able to cure the problem by switching cables to a thicker gauge cable. I have noticed other users have reported success after switching cables as well. The MacBook Pro 17" works fine with a convenient Ziplinq Firewire cable, however, the same cable repeatedly fails when used with the MacPro. I tried this about 4 times each to confirm that the narrow (ribbon like) gauge cable was unable to connect the HV10 to the MacPro. Here are the System Profiler results (using Refresh) on the Mac Pro.
