Success: I have been reliably able to connect my Cannon HV10 to my MacBook Pro 17" laptop using any 6 to 4 pin firewire cable. 6 to 4 pin cable photo at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire
Problem: However, when I first tried connecting the HV10 to a recently purchased (March 2008) MacPro using the Firewire same cable to the front Firewire port, I was at first unsuccessful.
Workaround: In my case, I was able to cure the problem by switching cables to a thicker gauge cable. I have noticed other users have reported success after switching cables as well. The MacBook Pro 17" works fine with a convenient Ziplinq Firewire cable, however, the same cable repeatedly fails when used with the MacPro. I tried this about 4 times each to confirm that the narrow (ribbon like) gauge cable was unable to connect the HV10 to the MacPro. Here are the System Profiler results (using Refresh) on the Mac Pro.
