Wow, same problem here. I have not found any way to solve this one. I think it has something to do with the 34 bit, "fat32", My PC is seeing the ipod as a flash drive or something. since it is using a fat32 it will only download up to 4 mb of the library. I don't know for sure where to change it. Maybe, this is a place to start. If I can figure this out I will leave a post. I have exausted all other options.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope you are more knowledgable then I.

yeah ive tried everything i can think of. i can go to another computer and sync it to it and put music on it. but on my computer it wont show mine is even connected through my computer. but it does in the bottom right corner by the clock and in my itunes. i can also hook up my girlfriends ipod and it then show up in my computer.when mine does not. i cant find anything to fix my problem. and it also shows up on hers that it is unable to download music cause no disk use like i stated before. Follow these instructions from another user "Endareth". They worked for me

Follow these steps exactly and you should have an iPod free from the dreaded "Disk not available" error! Please note that I've only encountered this problem on my iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen), so have only been able to confirm this working on that, YMMV.

To begin with, ensure iTunes is not running, and your iPod is not connected. Make sure you read through the following steps before your begin.

1. Run "c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc" (this is the Device Manager), this will need to be used later, but you'll need it quickly when you do.
2. Start iTunes
3. Connect iPod
4. Go to your iPod Settings and select "Enable disk use"
5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you'll need to manually eject. Hit OK
6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
7. Quickly switch to Device Manager window and right-click on any item there and select "Scan for hardware changes"
8. Switch back to iTunes, where you should have a nice, working iPod!

guys, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Whereever you are, big kisses all around please!

I had a similar problem, not exactly the same, but on my new 80g ipod classic I couldn't transfer rented movies, and I couldn't run a restore. One time I got a message saying disc could not be found....so I tried your solution and shazaam, it worked!

I have to tell you, I've been on the phone with Apple support 5 times, with itunes store twice, and support guys ended up recommending that I return it to Circuit City which I did, and the 2nd one had the exact same problem.

awesome, again thanks! I've wasted so much time in three weeks on this, amazing that Apple support wouldn't have a clue.

GREAT!!! and thanks, this issue has cost me about 2 weeks of googling and trying solution which sometimes seemed to work....

But this one does the trick! I still get the message about not being able to find the drive but is also starts to sync right after that. Let's just hope that there will be a patch soon.

You can try this as well restore the ipod once and in setup assistant window let the option automatically sync remain checked. while the ipod started syncing immediately go to the Summary page and check enable disk use and click on apply. remember this process must be done while the ipod is syncing..

ipod cannot be synced required disk cannot be found
