Safari question

I recently tried to access a my credit card site by logging in the password etc. usual way but got the message that my browser was not accepting cookies so I was unable to access the site.
I checked the Preferences and found that my settings had not changed but were set to accept cookies as follows : Only from sites you navigate to:
I changed the settings to :Always: and tried to access the site again but got the same message.
I then tried to access the credit card site using Firefox which has cookies box checked :For originating site only:. and had no problem at all getting access to the site.
When I tried to reset the password on the Safari site the link would not work but took me back to the same page again for entering log-in info.
Any suggestion I can try would be appreciated.

You did the right thing to use another browser. I think it's almost certain, that the site you want to log into does not meet the W3 specifications. Some browsers don't care, Safari does, thus I don't think there's anything wrong with your settings. Bacause of such incompatibility issues I have four different browsers installed on my system - yes, MSIE 5.23, too.

I re-read your message and it seems to me this site worked before seamlessly. You can try to empty caches in the Safari menu.

What could have happenened is that either you or your bank institute upgraded the software. You can't do much about their side.

There's a very small possibility that some preference files are corrupt. Instead of deleting them, rename them to .bak instead, so you can easily revert your settings, if this doesn't help.
These are the following:
all files in /Users/yourshortusername/Library/Safari/
/Users/yourshortusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist

Wow, you're going to have to go slow Gregor I'm not that versed in OS X yet I'm still thinking OS 9.
First which Preference files should I change and where would I find them
OK I found the Cookies and Cookies, plist and they are both set at Read and Write.

What do you mean by rename the file, do you mean give the Cookies.plist another name like , Jims.plist

BTW I can get into the bank if I'm using a different browser other than Safari.
