In the CD & DVDs preference pane, I've set Preview instead of iPhoto to open when I insert a picture CD. After setting this, nothing happens and I can open the picture CD fine in Preview.
Is there anything I can do to make Preview open my picture CD when I insert it into my Mac?
I have the same problem. Unfortunately, what seems as a basic operation, Leopard seems to struggle over it, and seems to take for granted that we store all our pictures on our Macs.
I'm actually using a memory card reader in my MacBook Pro's ExpressCard slot instead of a CD, it still does the same thing as a picture CD because when the iPhoto is set to open a picture CD when inserted, it opens my memory card.
The memory card contains a folder called, DCIM and there's another folder inside the DCIM folder called 100CASIO which contains pictures. If iPhoto is set to open instead, iPhoto displays all the pictures inside the 100CASIO folder however if Preview is set, nothing happens 😟
After setting the same option in Image Capture, Preview opens in the dock however it doesn't display any window displaying the contents of the memory card 😟
I just tried adding a picture to the memory card without putting it in any folder(s) to see if Preview could open it, it still does nothing 😟
Strange thing is that Preview can display my pictures if I clicked on the memory card in the open dialogue window without me having to point it to the CASIO100 folder inside the DCIM folder. If it can do this, surely it should be able to display the contents of the memory card when I insert it using the memory card adaptor in my MBP? 😟
Yep, I get the same thing. I don't suppose Preview is actually set up to do what you want. It gets called to open, but it doesn't know what to do and I don't think anything is passed to the app when it is opened. iPhoto and Image Capture must must scan to see if there is something mounted that it can browse.
