HELP!!! Blue Screen @ Startup on Brand New Macbook Pro
I've had this laptop for less than a month. First Mac ever. In the last couple days I have been having a difficult time getting to the login screen. It just sits at the blue screen before the login screen forever. Not I have shut down and tried to reboot, and this could go on for 1-10 power cycles before it gets to the login screen.
This thing is BRAND NEW.......Please dont tell me I have to reload leopard!!!
And if I do, how do I do that? Goto the apple store and have them do it? Like I said I am a new Apple owner. Are the 2 disks I got with the system Leopard?
Yes, the two discs you got with your system are a system specific version of Leopard with all the preloaded applications that came bundled with your Mac.
Before attempting to reinstall Leopard, if we should do that, let's find out a few facts. Did you backup your data at any point before these issues began?
Is your machine within the return period of the store's policy where you bought it at?
Do you have anything non-Apple connected to or installed on your machine?
No I didnt do any backup to the machine at all, not even sure how to do that. No the machine is out of the return to store date. I have an apple compatible mouse installed on the machine, but it seems the issue started happening after I bought my new ipod shuffle.
I dont have an external drive, what is the best way to back up the machine? Should I get an external drive for the backup?
I have the same thing-- A fairly new Macpro dual 3ghz machine.. Installed 10.5.2 and I got the blue screen upon reboot for approximately 5-6 minutes before the desktop finally appeared...
I think you just need to wait forever for it to eventually come up...
It is something every computer owner needs to learn how to do. It is not a question of if data will be lost but when. My FAQ also explains how to recover data from an otherwise unbootable system. I would look over those options given you have no backup presently, as troubleshooting your boot issue could speed the demise of the internal hard drive if it is a flaky hard drive to begin with.
