iPhoto backup and access

I use Backup to backup my iPhoto library to an external hard disk. I don't know how to view the photos on the external hard disk, however. My startup disk is almost full (about 1 gig available space) so I'm thinking about deleting a major portion of my photos on my laptop to make room on my hard drive. I want to be able to easily view my photos on the external hard drive, print them, drag them into emails, to iWeb, etc. but I don't see a way (in iPhoto) to easily access these stored photos. Any ideas?

There is no way to access these stored photos in iPhoto. Back Up stores the files in a pkg file, and these are incremental back ups too, so to make sense of them you will need to restore the Library using that app. For more details post on the Back Up forum.

Otherwise: you can simply store your Library on the external drive:

1. Quit iPhoto

2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.

3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.

4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
