Can't get Apple USB modem to work in Boot Camp

I've been struggling to get an Internet connection under boot camp/Windows XP for several days. Have an Apple USB modem and installed all the Apple drivers. Apple tech support says they can't help me with Windows (cop out). Both Microsoft and my ISP tech support team have both been great and have spent hours trying to help me. Their final conclusion is that the modem is working fine, but the underlying flaw is the inability of an Apple system to run Windows. In desperation, I've ordered a US Robotics USB modem from the Mac/PC Connection that is both OS X and Windows XP compatible. It is on backorder for 2 weeks

Any help you can give me in the meantime would be greatly appreciated! Glad I kept my old Dell!

When you say you installed ALL THE APPLE DRIVERS, do you mean you've inserted the DVD/CD into the drive while in XP to install the drivers? If this is all you did, you could be lacking the driver necessary to operate the device. I don't believe that Apple would include every single driver for every device they make/manufacture on the DVD/CD. I would suggest that while in XP you go to the update website and see if you can find a hardware device driver for it. Or maybe do a google search and see what you come up with. Just exactly what have you done to try to rectify this problem besides what you've already listed in your post?

I am confused, QuickDraw. If the poster cannot get online via Windows XP, how does he or she get the drivers?

I was running Windows and explorer OK but slow under Tiger and Parallels. When I upgraded to Leopard/Boot Camp, Windows runs faster, but it cannot get online. It "sees" my router. It works when connected directly to the cable modem, a configuration which doesn't meet my needs. I am totally unfamiliar with Windows terminology and cannot even begin to know where to look for an incorrect setting. How might I find out if my set up is wrong? thanks for any help.

I was speaking of the Boot Camp drivers that comes on the Leopard Disc. 🙂 This could possibly be the answer to your troubles as well if you haven't already installed them yourself. After you've successfully installed Windows via Boot Camp, you need to boot up into Windows, then stick in your Leopard Disc and the drivers are supposed to install automatically. If after you've installed the BC drivers you still cannot get online via your router, then post back.

Hope this helps.

By the way, you really need to start your own thread. That way you'll have a better chance of being assisted from others. Just a suggestion. 🙂

The Apple USB modem works fine with my iMac under OS X Tiger and OS X Leopard.

The Apple USB modem doesn't work with Bootcamp/Windows XP even after updating the Windows drivers from the Leopard DVD.

This appears to be a problem with Bootcamp or the WinXP USB modem driver. Windows Drivers Update does not indicate that any more recent modem drivers are available.

Given that Leopard includes the WinXP USB modem driver, I'm uncertain how to interpret the following statement on Apple's website at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303262

Does the Apple USB modem work on Windows machines?
The Apple USB Modem is not supported on computers running any version of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
