networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001).

I have been downloading Apple updates. The updates less than about 12-15 megs download ok, but those above about 20-30 megs stop beore complete download giving the fllowing message: "networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001)." I haven't been able to download new updates for Quicktime or OSX 10.4.3.
