wifi via linksys router problems

I'm using a linksys router with my home network and updated the firmware before I purchased my phone. I've not had any issues with connection.
If you look at the settings on the iPhone when you try to connect, what are those settings? The ones for your laptop look good, and appear to be what they should be. You don't need to use the static address set up. Are you using MAC filtering on the router? That would make a difference too. Check the iPhone settings and let us know and we will try to help further.

Most ISP's have you get the DNS automatically. Try powering off the router again, after turning the computers off. If you have a broadband cable modem, try powering that off as well. Then restart everything, in this order, modem, when it is finished rebooting and getting its signal, then the router, when the router is finished establishing itself, the the computer. It may have reset your security. Get into the router setup and check that. Remove security for a minute and try and connect the comptuers. If that works, then reset security and set the password. Enter the password into the comupter and iPhone and it should work.

my iPhone will connect to my home wireless network but I cant access web using safari or connect to itunes store using my wifi home network.

I have not been able to use my wifi home network since i move to new apartment.
I've reset iphone, router, and tried forget this network..... nothing has worked up to this point...

Well, the reason that you are not getting to the internet is because of things missing in your iPhone. The iPhone IP is not a valid IP address, it is one that is put there when nothing is sent to it. Looking at your router settings, for the router to have an IP address that ends in 254 seems strange to me. Most of them end in 1, and then assign IP addresses up the range from there. Without the router IP address and the DNS address assigned to the iPhone it won't work. Are you using a linksys router as described in the OP? You may need to restore the iPhone, and you certainly need to forget the network again. Has the iPhone ever worked on your network before? Can you get into the settings for the router and make changes? You may need the manual for the router to check the normal settings, if they aren't changing when you reset the router. Your iPhone will not connect to the internet unless you get an IP address assigned to it that is going to look like 192.168.1.##, where the ## is a number assigned to it by the router. You'll need an IP address for the phone, the router and a DNS address before anything will work.

i am having the same problem staying connected to wi-fi since upgrading iphone to latest software. Have two different "known" wifi locations (an airport extreme and linksys wireless router) and the connection worked fine in both locations before software upgrade. now the wi-fi connection keeps disconnecting and bumping me back to edge. All other wi-fi connections in both locations work fine. I am also getting freezes since the upgrade. Something obviously buggy in new software version. Any suggestions??

As far as the freezing issue is concerned, I would try a reset, and if that doesn't do it, a restore. That might clear up the WiFi issue as well, but I would start by "forgetting the network". Myself, as well as a number of people that I know have not had any issues with WiFi since the update. Does your linksys router have the latest firmware. If not, update that and reset everything and try connection again. Check your settings in WiFi on the iPhone and see if it is getting information assigned to it, i.e. IP address, DNS etc. Also, sometimes passwords can get corrupted during software changes, check that as well, if you have security on your network.

If the wired router doesn't work now, my only two other suggestions would be to connect the emac directly to the modem and see if you get connectivity. If you do, then I would suspect the router is the problem, especially since you lost the connectivity with it. I'm sorry, but I don't work much with DSL, so I'm not as familiar with how the information is sent to the router. If resetting the router caused a problem, then again, I would suspect the router might be the issue. If you do isolate the router as the problem, you may need to invest in a new one. Sorry I couldn't have been any more help.

From the settings you posted, it does not look like the router is pulling a valid ip from the modem.
If you are using a voice over ip setup, the modem will not reset until you power it off and disconnect the battery.
If using voice over ip, power down computer, iphone, router, modem.
Disconnect the battery in the modem for about 2 min.
Put battery back in modem and pwer everything back on starting from the wall (modem, router, computer, iphone.)

Thanks for the advice, I ended up going to the genius bar, and they pointed out a crack in the side of the plastic casing along the left corner. Seems the damage messed up the wi-fi circuitry which is situated in that corner. I dropped it while it was in a solid leather case, and I was surprised that the black plastic was so brittle. Phone works fine if wi-fi is turned off, but with it on goes into reset mode all the time.

I am a bit surprised at the brittle nature of the bottom of the phone. Apple needs to have a solid aluminum case and a bit more protection against drops. After all, cell pones are designed for frequent handling. Apple needs to work on making the iphone a lot more rugged.

Do you have the latest firmware for your Linksys router? Have you tried forgetting the network and joining it again?
