iPod version 1.3 software update altered/damaged display

My 5th generation iPod, which has worked flawlessly until now, developed an unusual problem after I downloaded and installed the version 1.3 software update on March 25.

When the screen is dimmed, everything is normal, but when the screen is lit there are now two short parallel but slightly offset lines (one or two pixels wide) that appear in the upper left quadrant, and just to the right of these lines, which are black, is an area of one or two red pixels.

At first I thought the screen had been damaged physically in some way, but that's not the case. The offending pixels all disappear when the screen dims.

Has this happened to anyone else?

This seems to be a rogue software problem. And because the only thing that transpired between when it was fine and when it was damaged is that I installed the software update, I can only conclude that the update itself somehow changed the display so that these areas are always "on" whenever the screen is lit.

This won't prevent me from using the iPod, but it is distracting and definitely lowers my enjoyment of the iPod.

Suggestions on possible fixes are welcome.

I installed ver 1.3, big mistake, it kept hard resetting itself when playing, i thought it was battery, corrupt files etc, after many hours head scratching and trawling internet sites i found someone with the same problem, who reinstalled previous firmware 1.2.1 which corrected the problem, i couldnt find this version so installed 1.1.2 instead, needless to say it now works perfectly, apple really need to sort this out....
