MIDIServer not responding - MIDI still present, but sometimes troublesome.
Dear Logic users,
I have noticed recently in Activity Monitor that MIDIServer is listed as not responding, in red letters. I'm not sure how long this problem has persisted, as my system has worked very well since I bought Logic 8 when it came out last year. I have had some issues lately with MIDI devices not being recognized, forcing deletion of the instruments in the Audio and MIDI setup application and "rediscovering" them (in addition to trashing of preference files, although this was not as effective as deleting the instruments from the Audio and MIDI setup).
Googling this issue reveals very little information. Has anyone else noticed that the MIDIServer is not responding, but still MIDI data is present (i.e. by playing software synths)? The MIDIServer will launch when starting an application requiring access to the MIDI subsystem (i.e. Logic, Reason, MIDI Monitor or even the Audio and MIDI setup application itself), but turn non-responsive after about 30 seconds. This happens even with no peripherals attached, e.g. no external soundcard, no firewire hard drives, no USB keyboards, and so on.
The above mentioned quirks happen rarely, but since I use my MacBook as a instrument for playing live, it is crucial that it is rock stable (as it has been in the past), thus the sight of a non-responsive application is of course not very reassuring! Any input or hints on a remedy will be greatly appreciated.
